Portugal is a beautiful country, despite only seeing Porto thus far. The biggest revelation? Vegetarian food in Portugal! We stepped out of our hotel and the first restaurant we walked by had several options for me to choose from. Considering how much of an issue we were worried it would be, it is comforting to know that vegetarianism is apparently arriving in Portugal.
The hospital around the corner from the hotel is housed in a very, very old building. I suppose that shouldn't be surprising considering that basically everything in this country predates Canada by hundreds of years. It's humbling in a way; living in North America, everything revolves around you and your own history. Few think beyond their immediate past, so seeing something so old is jarring, especially when it is so utterly unremarkable to those who live here and pass it every day. To them it's just the Porto hospital, while to me (and to a lesser extent Richard), it's something amazing and old and beautiful.

Tomorrow I get my first taste of Portuguese pastries, port wine and, hopefully, more vegetarian options. Just walking around this beautiful city will be exciting, not to mention the river bridges cruise we have planned.
Até proxima!
